Description
The Prince of Persia upon it's original release in the late 1980s was seen by many as a huge leap forward using animation within a video game. A technique known as rotoscoping was used to ensure that the characters moved as fluidly as possible through the gaming environments. The combat method was also different then in many games of the era. In Prince of Persia the characters fought using swords instead of projectiles, which was the usually method of dispatching enemies back then. In many ways the game broke into new territory. The History of Prince of Persia First released in 1989 for the Apple 2 home computer, the game was designed by Jordan Mechner. The game was then released on numerous platforms and published by the Konami Corporation. Prince of Persia is a single player, 2D side scrolling game of the platform genre. The objective of the game is simple, the Prince has one hour to rescue the imprisoned princess from the evil Jaffer. Sounds easy enough...right? Well that's not entirely true, since the game is played out in real time, the player literally has an hour to complete the game. The game can be saved from various checkpoints situated at the beginning of each level, but the hour time limit still stands. There are items that can aid the prince on his quest, these are; Health potions, life extension potions, landing buffer potions, and a sword which can be found on the first level. Conversions and Sequels Since the release of the original on the Apple 2 computer, the game has been converted onto many other platforms, including; Sega Mega Drive Sega Master System Nintendo Entertainment System Nintendo Game Boy Super Nintendo Entertainment System Because of the success of the original, the game has had many sequels on a variety of platforms, which include; Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003) Prince of Persia:Warrior Within (2004) Prince of Persia:The Two Thrones (2005) Prince of Persia:Revelations (2005)
